About Us

Middlesbrough Council and Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council in collaboration with Teesside University will each receive a share of £50m from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), with the aim of becoming an international beacon in tackling health inequalities. The NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) South Tees is one of the current 30 established around the country. The HDRC will establish new ways of working and improve the understanding of long-term factors which affect people’s chances to lead healthy lives by working collaboratively across the region to develop a culture of research and knowledge

This programme is funded by the NIHR Public Health Research Programme (reference NIHR151189). NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaborations enable Local Authorities to become more research-active, embedding a culture of evidence-based decision making.
